Hey there, thanks for following along with me at Kate Auchenbach Design. I am wishing your business success for Small Business Saturday and beyond!
Small Business Saturday is a perfect opportunity for any small business to boost visibility, attract customers, and foster community connections. Here are actionable tips to make the most of it:
1. Plan and Promote in Advance
Social Media: Create posts leading up to the day. Use hashtags like #SmallBusinessSaturday, #ShopSmall, and #SupportLocal. Pair these with local hashtags such as #GreaterPhiladelphia #SchwenksvillePa (use your town of course!)
Email Campaigns: Announce your participation with exclusive deals or a sneak peek at new products or services.
Collaborate with Others: Partner with complementary small businesses to cross-promote each other’s offerings.
2. Offer Special Deals
Discounts and Bundles: Provide discounts on popular items or bundle products/services for added value.
Exclusive Offers: Create deals only available on Small Business Saturday to drive urgency.
Loyalty Rewards: Offer extra perks, like points or free items, for repeat customers who shop with you that day.
3. Create an Experience
In-Store Events: Host activities like product demonstrations, tastings, or live music to attract foot traffic.
Online Engagement: Offer live streams, virtual tours, or Q&A sessions for customers who can’t visit in person.
Photo Opportunities: Set up a festive photo booth or special display that customers can share on social media.
4. Build Community Connections
Partner Locally: Work with nearby small businesses to create a “shop local” map or a community event.
Charitable Tie-Ins: Donate a portion of your sales to a local cause or charity, showing your commitment to the community.
Support Other Small Businesses: Encourage your team or customers to shop small throughout the neighborhood.
5. Highlight Your Story
Share Your Journey: Post about why you started your business and how it impacts your community.
Behind-the-Scenes Content: Share a glimpse of your preparations to build excitement and a personal connection.
Customer Testimonials: Spotlight happy customers who’ve supported your business.
6. Make It Easy to Shop
Optimize Your Website: Ensure your online store is user-friendly and can handle increased traffic.
Flexible Payments: Offer multiple payment options, including contactless or “buy now, pay later” services.
Clear Information: Clearly display your hours, location, and any special offers on all platforms.
7. Follow Up After the Day
Say Thank You: Send a thank-you email or post a shoutout to your customers.
Share Highlights: Post photos or videos of the day to keep the momentum going.
Continue the Deals: Extend offers to keep customers engaged for a few extra days.
Pro Tip! If you are a service-based company, you may feel uneasy about Small Business Saturday because it has been created to help push retail sales, but have no fear, there IS still a place for you. As an example, if you are an HVAC company and you want to have a sale on one of your services, let’s say a winter tune-up, what you can do is target your sale around the busy days. Put your deal out on social media early and make a longer window of time between your sales. Let it go until mid-week, the first week of December. Send out an email to customers the first week of December instead of Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday!
Was this helpful? I hope it was! If your goal is to take your business to new heights in 2026, but you’re unsure how to get there or need a little help, please reach out for a free consult!
